We are looking for an experienced and hands-on chemical compounder/batch maker to make soap. COVID has increased the demand for our products, and we need a self-motivated, fast learner who can meet the demands of our soap making operation as we rapidly ramp up production.

We manufacture and package high-quality, organic soaps for worldwide distribution. We sell to large businesses who market in stores and online and to small businesses with niche offerings.

We are looking for an Industrial Soapmaker to make batches of soap for forming into bar or liquid consumer products.  You would supply the right mixes to the right machines to make consumers favorite health and beauty products by following the recipes and instructions of the formula.

Responsibilities

  • Weigh and measure ingredients including vegetable oils, lye and fragrance
  • Blend and mix ingredients using hand tools and automated equipment
  • Observe mixture while blending to detect variations of color, viscosity, and homogeneity
  • Learn by doing, troubleshoot and develop optimal soap making processes
  • R&D: work with Production Manager and R&D/product team to develop and optimize recipes
  • Inventory management: receive and put away raw materials
  • Operate material handling and safety equipment including forklifts and motorized hand/lift trucks
  • Heavy manual lifting of soap molds, soap in drying trays, equipment, cartons etc.
  • Operate manual and hydraulic soap cutting equipment
  • Operate pumps and valves to handle liquid ingredients
  • Lead by example to maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Follows batch work instructions to manufacture quality products.
  • Monitors and controls high speed mixer, pumps, flow meters and other instruments to make sure that a batch is produced according to work instructions.
  • Adjust a batch, under QC guidance, until it is approved.
  • Cleanup work area to 5S standards, takes out trash, participate in cycle count and inventory program.
  • Ensure work area is safe and free of recognizable hazards
  • Complete paperwork for production, quality, safety records.
  • Complete all essential training specific to job function.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned according to skills and abilities.

Preferred candidates will also have these qualifications:

  • 3+ years working in a batch process manufacturing operation (e.g. soap, cosmetics, food, bakery etc)
  • 3+ years operating manual handling equipment (forklift certification highly desired)
  • Demonstrated ability to learn on the job and quickly solve problems
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to read batch tickets and prepare labels for products; basic math
  • Knowledge, experience of solvents for cleaning
  • Knowledge of measuring & weights (grams, ounces)
  • Knowledge of running a machine: On & Off Speeds
  • Ability to read a formula and follow a sequence
  • Must be willing to work overtime or alternate shift as required.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications.
